چکیده

T he magnetic resonance (MR) phenomenon was first described in 1946 2 but it was not until 1981 that the first transverse image through the human head was reported. In the last 20 years, MR technology has revolutionised medical and scientific neuroimaging, providing the richest source of information about the living brain available from any imaging technology and without the use of ionising radiation. MR techniques most commonly used in the neonate have been conventional MR imaging and P and H MR spectroscopy. MR imaging has allowed the observation of brain development and response to perinatal brain injury in vivo with an unprecedented sensitivity for assessment of changes in grey and white matter and an ability to differentiate unmyelinated from myelinated white matter. MR spectroscopy has provided a metabolic fingerprint of the brain during normal development and after perinatal brain injury (fig 1). Conventional MR imaging and MR spectroscopy, however, are only part of an array of methods that comprise the MR diagnostic armamentarium, which includes diffusion weighted MR imaging, diffusion tensor imaging, MR angiography, functional MR imaging (fMRI), magnetisation transfer imaging, and chemical shift imaging. These newer techniques have huge medical and scientific potential.

Introduction: In neonatal period, brain magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) is the best neuroimaging to find etiology of seizure. The aim of this study was to evaluate brain MRI findings of neonates with clinical seizure and its effect on diagnostic and therapeutic interventions of newborn. Methods: In a retrospective study, medical records and brain MRI findings of neonates with clinical seizure...

Neonatal Brain Magnetic Resonance Imaging Findings and Its Relationship with Demographic Characteristics of Neonates

Background and Objective: Neonatal neurological diseases are characterized by a range of clinical symptoms and signs that can be confirmed by Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI) in some cases. This study aimed to examine the neonatal cerebral MRI descriptively. Materials and Methods: In this comparative cross-sectional study, 69 MRI neonatal images were analyzed from January to April 2019. These ...

Low field strength magnetic resonance imaging of the neonatal brain.

BACKGROUND Magnetic resonance (MR) imaging of the neonate has been restricted by the need to transport the sick baby to the large magnetic resonance scanners and often the need for sedation or anaesthesia in order to obtain good quality images. Ultrasound is the reference standard for neonatal imaging. OBJECTIVE To establish a dedicated neonatal MR system and compare the clinical usefulness o...

Cerebral Palsy and Patterns of Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI): A Review

Cerebral Palsy is the most common chronic motor disorder of childhood, that affecting approximately 3 infants per 1000 live-births. The risk of brain injuries that potentially cause Cerebral Palsy has amplified with increasing in survival rates for preterm infants. In addition Cerebral Palsy has a huge economic impact, to immeasurable health, social, and psychological problems that affected chi...

Segmentation of Magnetic Resonance Brain Imaging Based on Graph Theory

Introduction: Segmentation of brain images especially from magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) is an essential requirement in medical imaging since the tissues, edges, and boundaries between them are ambiguous and difficult to detect, due to the proximity of the brightness levels of the images. Material and Methods: In this paper, the graph-base...
